Organized by the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Czech Republic in cooperation with the Savannakhet University, Savannakhet, Lao PDR
The intensive course aimed to provide profound knowledge on topics that dealt with the sustainable management of forest resources, and their marketing in the setting of forest bioeconomy. The topics included introductory lectures, practical group work within the Savannakhet University premises, and field excursions to nearby forests.
The course dealt with the management of forest resources, sustainable plantation forestry in terms of silvicultural interventions and harvesting operations, production and marketing of non-timber forest products, as well as business management, marketing and project management
Upon completion of the courses, the participants are able to identify the critical problems in each subject, use basic analytic methods to research the problems, and synthesize and propose a solution to said problems, considering the regional and legal issues that are specific to the country for which the solution is developed. The course was aimed at developing key skills of Thai and Lao HEI staff who study the problem of production forests and teach subjects related to the optimization of the production function in natural forests and plantations. In other words, the course was aimed at young and driven participants from Savannakhet University, Souphanouvong University, Kasetsart University, and Chiang Main University who focus on silviculture or forest harvesting and raw timber production in the tropics.
